On 20 May, the Committee held its inaugural meeting, during which the key objectives of the newly established body were discussed:
defining the committee's strategic priorities,
ensuring Ukraine’s active participation in UNESCO’s global initiatives,
supporting national media development projects.
“Our country is not only strengthening its presence in the global information space but also acting as a facilitator of essential decisions that shape the emerging global media architecture,” emphasized Olha Herasymiuk, Chair of the National IPDC Committee of Ukraine and the National IFAP Committee, in her welcoming address, as cited on the website of the National Television and Radio Broadcasting Council of Ukraine.
As noted by Yevheniia Kravchuk, the National Committee for the Information for All Programme (IFAP) is actively addressing key challenges such as digital literacy, access to information, and countering disinformation.
Within the framework of the IPDC, particular attention will be devoted to issues of critical importance for Ukraine:
supporting independent and public service media, and strengthening professional standards;
ensuring the protection of journalists and countering impunity for crimes committed against them;
combating hate speech in the media and on social networks;
pursuing media-related legislative reforms;
assessing the state of the media landscape based on international indicators (MDI, GSIM, MVI, and safety indicators);
advancing education and training for journalists and editors.
“Of course, we will continue to raise the issue of the abduction of Ukrainian journalists, their unlawful detention in russian captivity, and the crimes perpetrated against Ukrainian media professionals,” the parliamentarian stressed.
