On May 19, a meeting took place in Brussels between members of the Committee on Economic Development and the European Commissioner for Defence and Space Andrius Kubilius.
During the discussions, Committee members emphasized the importance of enabling the export of dual-use goods to Ukraine’s allies. This matter was treated as a priority in the context of deepening defence cooperation and enhancing the capabilities of Ukraine’s industrial sector in collaboration with European Union partners.
Mr. Kubilius noted that the European Union's interest in deepening integration with Ukraine is exceptionally strong — even exceeding Ukraine’s own level of engagement. According to him, the establishment of joint defence enterprises is not only timely but also a strategically important and attractive avenue for the EU. This initiative could serve as the foundation for a new format of partnership between Ukraine and the European defence industry.
The Commissioner emphasized that Europe is currently actively seeking new avenues for development — and Ukraine is poised to become precisely such an opportunity. He underlined Ukraine’s significant potential, noting that there are far more areas for practical economic and defence cooperation between our countries than are currently being utilized.
Members of the Committee on Economic Development expressed their gratitude to Mr. Kubilius for the candid dialogue, his willingness to cooperate, and the shared vision for the future of the European-Ukrainian partnership in the field of security and defence.
