Joint efforts aimed at restoring the institution were formalized with the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation. The document was signed by Minister Mykola Tochytskyi, Head of the UNESCO Office in Ukraine Chiara Dezzi Bardeschi, and Rector of the Kyiv State Academy of Decorative and Applied Arts and Design named after M. Boichuk, Olena Osadcha.
«Today we jointly affirm that during russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, our cooperation with UNESCO is filled with practical meaning. Together, we must build a foundation for peace, security, and cultural dialogue. I am convinced that the successful implementation of the Memorandum will be one of the steps that contributes to the restoration of Ukrainian culture and the nurturing of future generations — free and talented», said Mykola Tochytskyi.
According to the Memorandum, UNESCO, with the support of the Government of Japan, will be responsible for financing and organizing the restoration work, including the engagement of contractors and supervision of the implementation.
«This is the first such memorandum that paves the way for the reconstruction of institutions damaged as a result of russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. We are investing in the future of Ukrainian artists and creators who aspire to create, develop, and promote Ukrainian culture», noted Chiara Dezzi Bardeschi.
For its part, the Academy will facilitate access to the site and ensure the necessary permits are obtained. The reconstruction is expected to be completed within five months, taking into account preparatory and installation work, in order to return the facilities to full operation as quickly as possible.
