The winter session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) has begun in Strasbourg, where, at the initiative of the Ukrainian delegation, urgent procedure debates will be held on the topic "European Commitment to a Just and Lasting Peace in Ukraine."
This was announced by Member of Parliament, Deputy Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy, and member of Ukraine’s permanent delegation to PACE, Yevheniia Kravchuk.
"We consider Europe's role in establishing peace in Ukraine to be extremely important. This was discussed last week in Davos, and now we will discuss it in PACE. The war in Ukraine is a war on the European continent; it is aggression against a country that currently holds EU candidate status. Therefore, the European continent and European countries must take an active role in ensuring a just and lasting peace in Ukraine," the politician stated.
She added that there can be no just peace without taking Ukraine's interests into account.
"That’s why we want the member states of the Council of Europe to stand with Ukraine and to strengthen our position with their support," emphasized the Member of Parliament.
According to her, the EU is currently united overall, and it has even gained a certain political agency in responding to the aggressive war against Ukraine. She added that the European Union must continue to grow stronger because democracy cannot be defended with words alone.
