russia's latest massive missile attack on Ukrainian cities has set the tone for the NATO Summit, where no one is avoiding the topic of russian war crimes. Accordingly, the transfer of air defence systems and F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine became a priority issue at the anniversary meeting of the North Atlantic Alliance.
This was stated by Olena Khomenko, the MP, member of the Committee on National Security, Defence and Intelligence, Vice-President of PACE.
“russia's massive missile attack on Ukraine on the eve of the NATO summit affected the tone of the participants of this meeting. The rhetoric has definitely become tougher. Allies have declared that the priority is to protect Ukrainian cities. We have already heard promises to provide Ukraine with additional air defence systems and to increase the number of F-16 fighters,” the MP said.
She added that the current meeting in Washington clearly shows that Ukraine has become closer to the Alliance.
“We have definitely become closer to NATO as we carry out fundamental reforms. This is noted by our partners, who are following the process and will then assess whether these changes were effective and met expectations. We continue to work in this direction, and one of these reforms concerns the defence procurement system. This is one of the key steps in the implementation of the Adapted Annual National Programme in 2024,” the MP said.
She also stressed that Ukraine will not stop on the path of reforms that NATO expects from us, while we must simultaneously build good relations with each member state separately, as this will be the key to a successful vote on our accession in the future.
