The Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte has been officially confirmed as NATO Secretary General. There is every reason to believe that he will continue the policy of Jens Stoltenberg, who has always had a clear position in support of Ukraine.
This was stated by Yehor Chernev, the MP, Deputy Chairman of the Committee on National Security, Defence and Intelligence, Head of the Permanent Delegation of Ukraine to the NATO PA.
"Mark Rutte's communication skills will definitely come in handy to keep the balance within NATO. It is safe to say that he will cope with this, as there are now more than 10 parties in the Dutch parliament, with whom he had to negotiate and form a coalition. Rutte has managed to do this, so he will be able to reach an agreement within the Alliance on both assistance to Ukraine and our future accession to NATO. I believe that Rutte's election will only strengthen our position in the Alliance," the politician said.
He added that another positive sign for Ukraine in the international arena is that the new EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy is likely to be the pro-Ukrainian and anti-putin Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas, who will replace Josep Borrell.
