These days, the Conference dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the European Parliament’s activities in support of democracy is taking place in Brussels at the European Parliament.

In the framework of the event, the delegation of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine joined the Conference, particularly, the Seminar on Strategic Planning for Digital Transformation in Parliaments. The discussion panel was organized by the Directorate-General for External Policies of the European Union, the Directorate for Democracy Support as well as the Parliamentary Support and Capacity Building Unit of the European Parliament.

The participants of the Seminar were welcomed by the Secretary General of the European Parliament Klaus Welle and the Director for Democracy Support Armelle Douaud.

The main topic of the event was the strengthening of the role of digital technologies in the work of the secretariats of the parliaments of the countries applying for EU membership – Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova.

“In Ukraine digital transformation is defined as a priority policy. Every Ukrainian knows what E-service, electronic queue and paperwork in the application are. The work of the Ukrainian Parliament is organized in the same way: thanks to the introduction of digital technologies, we make the process more convenient, faster and more efficient. The quality of work of both secretariats and the legislative process in general directly depends on the successful integration of advanced technologies. Today the world tends to simplify and optimize work. And new technologies allow us to do it,” said Viacheslav Shtuchnyi, the Chief of Staff of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

According to him, digital technologies have already been introduced to ensure the smooth operation of the Parliament since the beginning of the full-scale war.

The Chief of Staff of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine also focused on the directions of reforming the work of the legislative body of the country in strengthening digital transformation.

The participants also paid attention to the importance of identifying digital technologies for the development of effective guidelines, the impact of possible risks, and interaction with the business community.

The Secretaries General of the Parliaments of Georgia and Moldova shared their experience in the field of digital transformation with the Seminar participants.
