Head of the Committee on Human Rights, Deoccupation and Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories in Donetsk, Luhansk Regions and Autonomous Republic of Crimea, National Minorities and Interethnic Relations Dmytro Lubinets met with Head of the Human Security Division of the Swiss Department of Foreign Affairs Simon Geissbuhler.

The participants discussed a number of issues, including the current human rights situation in Ukraine, ensuring the rights and freedoms of victims of armed conflict and temporary occupation of part of Ukraine, the state of ensuring the rights of national minorities and indigenous peoples, and relevant legislative initiatives.

During the meeting, special attention was paid to the discussion of topical issues related to the restoration of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, deoccupation and reintegration of the temporarily occupied territories. In the context of this issue, the Chairperson of the Committee stressed the importance of continuing the sanctions policy against the Russian Federation.

Dmytro Lubinets remarked: “Reintegration will take place exclusively by political and diplomatic methods, not by military means. In addition to adoption the necessary bills on transitional justice, Ukraine needs international support. Switzerland has not joined EU sanctions on restrictive measures against Russia. I hope that Switzerland will soon change this position and join the sanctions policy against the aggressor country.”

The parties noted the long-term relations between Ukraine and Switzerland and expressed hope for the continuation of fruitful, mutually beneficial and long-term cooperation.
