On July 5, the Committee on Economic Development held the hearing on "Strategic guidelines for deepening trade and economic relations between Ukraine and the European Union under the terms of the Association Agreement."
The hearings were attended by MPs, government officials, industry associations and diplomats.
The participants of the meeting discussed the state of Ukraine's trade relations with the EU, the problems of industries and the necessary steps to improve our export potential and other issues.
Opening the hearing, the Chairperson of the Committee noted that the Committee was responsible for six areas of the Association Agreement with the EU, in five of them the pace of implementation is above average. "Currently, the Association Agreement has been fulfilled by 54%. The implementation of the Plan by our Committee is almost 70%. Moreover, the areas of 'Overcoming Technical Barriers' and 'Public Procurement' have the best results in the country. None of the areas has higher indicators," he said.
According to Dmytro Natalukha, based on such indicators, the Association Agreement should be revised in favor of Ukraine, taking into account all challenges.
Dmytro Natalukha stressed, "I am sure that we have a lot of room for cooperation with the EU. We can expect many years of fruitful partnership. However, it is important to remember that the key condition for a partnership is mutual benefit. Let's go to this together."
The initiator of the hearings, the Deputy Chairperson of the Committee, also focused on the revision of the economic part of the Agreement, which, in his opinion, is unfair for Ukraine.
"The free trade agreement signed within the association doesn't work. In fact, Ukrainian goods do not have free access to the EU market. Quotas, duties, trade restrictions, transportation problems - did not go anywhere. And new ones appeared. Our companies also did not have de facto access to EU public procurement. In our country, the penetration of imports in the field of public procurement is almost 40%, while in the EU - less than 10%. Our producers are discriminated against in European tenders," he said.
Dmytro Kysylevskyy stressed that this year, after 5 years since the signing of the economic part of the Agreement, it is possible to revise it
