During the meeting, Indonesian MP Muhammad Misbakhun congratulated Ukraine on holding democratic local elections. He noted that Ukraine is one of Indonesia's strategic partners, and relations between the states are strengthening every year, especially in the agricultural and defense spheres.

In turn, Chairperson of the Ukrainian Inter-Parliamentary Relations Group, MP Artem Kunaev noted, that Indonesia's experience in overcoming crises and carrying out reforms can be useful for Ukraine. “Our countries and peoples can give a lot to each other. This meeting is the beginning of our cooperation,” he said.

MP Mustafa Dzhemilev raised the issue of persecution and protection of the rights of Crimean Tatars and the situation in Crimea. Mustafa Dzhemilev also thanked the parliamentarians of Indonesia, which was among the 100 countries that supported the UN resolution on Crimea and supports the territorial integrity of Ukraine.

“Every year, the UN adopts resolutions demanding respect for human rights in the occupied territories, but Russia continues the occupation. Our struggle continues, but we want the liberation of our territory through peaceful diplomacy. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine created the ‘Crimean Platform’ that will deal with the issue of deoccupation of Crimea. This initiative is already supported by the United States, Great Britain and Turkey. I hope that Indonesia will also join it and be an active participant,” said MP Mustafa Dzhemilev.

MP Sviatoslav Yurash drew attention to the importance of Indonesia's experience in building anti-corruption infrastructure and fighting corruption in Ukraine.

The Vice Speaker of the Indonesian Parliament Aziz Syamsudin thanked for the organization of the visit and summed up the importance of developing cooperation between Indonesia and Ukraine in the area of economy and defense, trade, education and culture.

The parties expressed hope for strengthening inter-parliamentary ties and discussed the possibility of a return visit of the Ukrainian delegation to Indonesia after the end of the pandemic.
