“By the December summit of NATO in London the new parliament ought to sanction an array of civilian security laws,” – Hanna Hopko

The head of the Committee on Foreign Affairs Hanna Hopko spoke at the opening of the Parliament–Civil Society Platform "On The Path To Good Governance: Five Years of Reforming Ukraine’s Civilian Security Sector" held on May 23 in Kyiv.

The event was attended by MPs, representatives of international organizations, law enforcement agencies and civil society.

“It is very important that we are able today to discuss the legislative package which is supposed to be implemented in the very next parliament,” noted Hanna Hopko. According to her, it is about bills on strengthening parliamentary control, reforming the Security Service of Ukraine and intelligence, and developing an effective system of protection of classified information. The last year’s law on national security of Ukraine was said to become the firm footing for implementing those sweeping transformations.

Hanna Hopko called on international partners to take a proactive stand so that the developed initiatives become a priority on the agenda of the new parliament.

"We have to set an ambitious goal - the parliament must adopt these legislative initiatives by the NATO summit in December," stressed the committee head, speaking at the platform.

Hanna Hopko thanked the EU Advisory Mission, volunteers, activists, and international organizations for helping Ukraine rebuff Russia's military aggression.
