Hanna Hopko, the head of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, met with Brad Freden, Director, Office of Eastern European Affairs, U.S.Department of State
She expressed gratitude to the American side for supporting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, the severe sanctions and a clear position regarding the aggressive actions of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
The parties emphasized the importance of further deepening of bilateral cooperation between Ukraine and the USA.
During the meeting, there were discussed the sweeping reforms in the country, including the sectors of security, defense and corruption counteraction, the possibilities of implementing the national security law, as well as preparation of other legislative enactments in the context of enhancing Ukraine's defense capability.
Particular attention was paid to counteracting the Russian aggression in the Donbas, in the waters of the Sea of Azov and the Kerch Strait, as well as the need to strengthen sanctions against the Russian Federation and other steps aimed at restoring territorial integrity and sovereignty, and to take all possible measures to promote the de-occupation of the Crimea. In the course of the meeting, it was also ventilated the need to stop the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.
Brad Freden observed that Ukraine plays an important role not only for regional but also global security and is a great partner. He also assured continued support of Ukraine.
