On February 10, 2016 in a solemn atmosphere Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman, Chairperson of the Committee on Science and Education Lilia Hrynevych and Chairperson of the Committee on Family Matters, Youth Policy, Sports and Tourism Artur Palatnyi presented the annual Prizes of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to the teaching staff of secondary, vocational, pre-school and post-school educational institutions; to the most talented young scientists in the field of basic and applied research, and scientific and technological research works; for the youth's contribution to the development of parliamentarianism, and local self-government.
In accordance with the resolutions of the Verkhovna Rada "On awarding the annual Prize of the Verkhovna Rada to the teaching staff of secondary schools, vocational, pre-school and post-school educational institutions" and "On awarding the Prize of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to the most talented young scientists in the field of basic and applied research, and scientific and technological research works for 2013" the Prizes were granted to 27 teachers and 34 young scientists.
On September 14, 2006 at the initiative of the Committee on Science and Education the Ukrainian Parliament adopted a Resolution of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine No. 131-V "On the establishment of the annual Prize of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to the teaching staff of secondary, vocational, pre-school and post-school educational institutions."
The annual Prize laureates are awarded with a Diploma and an Award Pin, and monetary part of the Prize worth a total of UAH 20,000.
This year the Prize is awarded for the seventh time.
A total of 206 teachers were winners of the annual Prize in 2008 - 2014.
Among the Prize winners for 2015 are 13 representatives of the general secondary school; three of vocational; five of pre-school; and eight of post-school educational institutions.
Presenting the Prize of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to the most talented young scientists in the field of basic and applied research, scientific and technological research works started in 2008, pursuant to the Resolution of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine "On the Prizes of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to young scientists in the field of basic and applied research, scientific and technological research works."
According to the Resolution of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, 20 prizes are granted by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine annually. Their size is UAH 20,000 each, and the team of contenders for one prize may not exceed four persons.
The Regulation on the prize of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine envisages the following three-stage procedure of works selection.
The first stage is the selection of candidates for the Prize by academic councils of research institutions and universities.
The second - by the collegiums of central bodies of executive power or presidiums of national academies of sciences.
The third stage is the Competition Commission on awarding the Prizes of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and personal scholarships of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to the most talented young scientists.
The composition of the Commission is formed of famous scientists in the relevant areas of sciences and representatives of ministries, academies of sciences and people's deputies/members of the Committee.
In 2014, a total of 64 works were nominated for the Prizes of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to the most talented young scientists in the field of basic and applied research, and scientific and technological research works. Namely, from the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine 20 works, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine 35 works, the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine six works, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine three works.
For a broad public familiarization with candidates for the Prizes and their works corresponding information was published on July 4, 2014 in the newspaper Voice of Ukraine.
Prize winners for 2014 were 42 scientists, including one Doctor of Science and 37 Ph.D. They presented research works on mathematics; computer science; mechanics; physics and astronomy; materials science; technology; energy; chemistry; biochemistry, molecular biology; general biology; agriculture; sociology, history, law and literature. Of these eight works came from the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, eight works from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, three from the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine, and one work from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
Among the Prize winners are representatives of Kyiv, Kharkiv, Sumy, Dnipropetrovsk, Kirovohrad, Lviv, and Odesa.
When congratulating the winners, Chairperson of the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Lilia Hrynevych said that today education and science are the core driver of the social progress, successful development of nations, countries, and every person. Having chosen the path of European integration, our country should as soon as possible harmonize its legislation on education, and scientific and technical activities with European standards, which is the most important task of the Committee in charge.
