On behalf of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Human Rights, National Minorities and Interethnic Relations, Hryhorii Nemyria thanked the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Danish Refugee Council in Ukraine and Right to Protection fund for their efforts in assisting internally displaced persons.
He said a day earlier the Ukrainian Parliament adopted the Law "On amendments to some legislative acts of Ukraine to enhance guarantees of internally displaced persons' rights and freedoms protection," "which was our joint success."
The Chairperson of the Committee pointed out the importance of coordination and cooperation with the executive power to speed up the implementation of the adopted legislative initiatives.
He also said the Committee offered to as soon as possible hold parliamentary hearings dedicated to internally displaced persons and invited the attendants of the Forum to join the event. He also offered holding of an offsite meeting of the Committee in one of the Ukrainian cities "to personally see how internally displaced persons live."
"Our Committee is open for cooperation with non-government and international organizations to protect civil rights and freedoms in Ukraine," Hryhorii Nemyria said.
First deputy head of the Committee Valerii Patskan also thanked the Forum participants and expressed hope for further fruitful cooperation.
The Forum participants analyzed results of project activity having paid particular attention to problems of internally displaced persons revealed during the implementation of the project.
"The implementation of the project would allow us to enhance the protection of internally displaced persons and other vulnerable strata of population in Ukraine," said Jean-Noel Wetterwald, the interim head of Ukraine operations for the United Nations High Commission for Refugees.
Danish Refugee Council Country (Ukraine) Director Krista Zongolowicz said that over only a year, the Council managed to do enormous work in assisting internally displaced persons in Ukraine.
