First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniyenko met with Head of the Democratization Department of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights Konstantine Vardzelashvili. The parties discussed human rights protection in the context of russian aggression, support for democratic institutions, and further expert cooperation on Ukraine’s path toward the EU.

During the meeting, Oleksandr Korniyenko emphasized the consequences of russian strikes on energy and transport infrastructure, which directly affect the ability of citizens to work, get medical care, and utilize essential services. Particular attention was paid to the rights of Ukrainians in the temporarily occupied territories, the protection of civilians, and ensuring humanitarian access.

"It is essential that protecting the rights of individuals affected by russian aggression, countering discrimination, and aligning with European standards remain cross-cutting objectives of public policy—both during martial law and throughout the recovery process," noted the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

Separately, during the meeting, the parties focused on parliamentary reform and the preparation of legislative solutions for Ukraine’s post-war democratic development. According to Oleksandr Korniyenko, such changes require thorough discussion in parliament and building consensus among colleagues, as they will define the operational rules of institutions for years to come. He thanked the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights for its expert contribution, particularly in addressing issues related to post-war elections.

"We count on continuing our cooperation, which will assist Ukraine in strengthening democratic institutions and fulfilling European integration tasks," emphasized the First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
