On 5 February, First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko held a meeting with a special mission of the European Parliament's Committee on Security and Defence (SEDE). The event took place in the Ukrainian Parliament.

Oleksandr Korniienko welcomed a delegation of representatives from the European Parliament Committee to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, with whom he recently had a constructive conversation in Brussels, and emphasised the importance of continuing interparliamentary dialogue.

The parties discussed further steps to strengthen Ukraine's defence capabilities and protect our country's critical energy infrastructure amid ongoing russian aggression.

«We are grateful to the European Parliament for its clear and unwavering support for a just and lasting peace for Ukraine, based on international law and respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our state,» said the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, thanking the European Union and its member states for the military support provided to Ukraine.

Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defence and Intelligence Yegor Cherniev, in turn, expressed his gratitude for the aid package provided by the European Union. «These funds will significantly help Ukraine meet its security needs. It is important for us to allocate part of them specifically to increasing the monetary allowance for military personnel,» Yehor Cherniev noted.

First Deputy Speaker Oleksandr Korniienko expressed his conviction that, through joint efforts with European and international partners, Ukraine will succeed in achieving a just peace in Ukraine and ensuring that the russian aggressor is held accountable for the crimes committed.

On the Ukrainian side, the meeting with the special mission of the European Parliament's Committee on Security and Defence (SEDE) was attended by Ivanna Klympush-Tsyntsadze, Chair of the Committee on Ukraine's Integration into the European Union, First Deputy Chair of the Committee on Ukraine's Integration into the European Union Vadym Halaychuk, Deputy Chair of the Committee on National Security, Defence and Intelligence Yehor Cherniev, as well as MPs from various factions and groups Iryna Herashchenko, Tamila Tasheva, Larysa Bilozir and Oleksandr Koltunovich.
