Today marks two years since the death of Serhii Slabenko, a member of the Ukrainian Parliament of the IV convocation. The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine honored his memory.
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk, members of parliament, the Head of the Parliamentary Administration, Vyacheslav Shtuchnyi, and employees of the Administration gathered at the memorial plaque installed on the building of the Ukrainian Parliament at 5 Hrushevsky Street to remember the man who was a lawmaker and who stood up to defend Ukraine from the very first days of the full-scale invasion.
«Unfortunately, the number of plaques with the names of those who gave their lives for Ukraine on the memorial plaque in the Verkhovna Rada is growing. Those who worked with us until recently are now watching from above. They paid the highest price — their lives — so that we could be here and continue to work for the country,» said Ruslan Stefanchuk, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, during the commemoration.
Serhii Slabenko was a member of the Ukrainian Parliament of the IV convocation, a member of the Volyn Regional Council for several convocations, and headed the subcommittee on judicial proceedings in the Committee on Legal Policy. He was a professional soldier, lawyer, and lieutenant colonel. He died on 30 July 2023 while performing a combat mission near Orikhiv in Zaporizhzhia.
His name is among those who distinguished themselves by their integrity. He persistently and consistently defended the principles of building a constitutional state and selflessly served in the Armed Forces of Ukraine during the full-scale invasion by the russian federation. Serhii Slabenko will forever remain in our memory and in the memory of those who knew and worked with him.
