First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko, together with Deputy Speaker Olena Kondratiuk, met with Vice President of the Chamber of Deputies of the Italian Republic Giorgio Mulè to express gratitude for the organization of the parliamentary dimension of the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC2025).

The parliamentary dimension culminated in the signing of the Joint Final Communiqué between the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the Chamber of Deputies of Italy. The document outlines the coordination of efforts between the parliaments of Ukraine and Italy to ensure continuous military, economic, and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine, strengthen sanctions pressure on russia, protect investors’ rights, facilitate the return of deported children, support veteran reintegration, and promote public-private partnership development.

Joining the meeting with Mr. Giorgio Mulè were the co-chairs of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine’s parliamentary group for interparliamentary relations with the Italian Republic, Serhii Alekseyev and Daria Volodina.

«Importantly, a strong tradition of dialogue has already been established between the Ukrainian and Italian parliaments on key issues of bilateral and multilateral cooperation — both on the sidelines of international forums and within the work of relevant parliamentary committees,» Oleksandr Korniienko mentioned.

He also expressed his gratitude to Italy, represented by Giorgio Mulè, for facilitating regional and municipal cooperation. According to him, such initiatives form the foundation for sustainable community development, strengthen social cohesion, and deepen the ties between our peoples. «We appreciate Italy’s willingness to take patronage over the restoration of Odesa. More broadly, we sincerely thank Italy for its consistent support of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,» — emphasised Oleksandr Korniienko.

During the meeting with the Vice President of the Chamber of Deputies of the Italian Republic, Deputy Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament Olena Kondratiuk raised the issue of Italy’s continued support for Ukrainian children.

It is worth noting that during her working visit to Rome, Olena Kondratiuk appealed to the Chamber of Deputies of Italy with a proposal to consider a resolution concerning abducted Ukrainian children, similar to the one registered in the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate.

«The key feature of the resolution is the demand that russia return all abducted children before any peace agreements are signed. I also discussed the possibility of initiating a debate on such a resolution in the Italian Parliament with Deputy Speaker Anna Ascani. This is especially relevant in the context of the European Court of Human Rights’ ruling, which recognized the abduction, indoctrination, and militarization of children as a gross violation of human rights and a deliberate state policy of russia,» Olena Kondratiuk said. Additionally, according to her, Ukraine counts on Italy’s support in advocating for the adoption of a stringent sanctions law against russia in the U.S. Congress.

«Giorgio Mulè assured that he will make efforts to facilitate the consideration of the resolution on the return of children in the Italian Parliament,» emphasised Olena Kodratiuk.

The parliamentary dialogue between Ukraine and Italy is not only a tool of bilateral cooperation but also a vital factor of international solidarity. At a time when Ukraine is fighting for its freedom and Europe’s security, support from partner parliaments takes on special significance.
