Within the official visit to France, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk held a meeting with the President of the Senate Gerard Larcher.
They honoured the memory of General Charles de Gaulle by laying flowers at his monument as a symbol of respect for the struggle for freedom that unites the Ukrainian and French peoples.
During the meeting, the two sides had a meaningful discussion on current security challenges caused by russian aggression and areas for further cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting focused on joint efforts to strengthen Ukraine's defence capabilities, the need for new sanctions against russia, Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic integration, and the role of parliamentary diplomacy in the development of bilateral relations. Particular attention was paid to the issue of returning Ukrainian children who were illegally taken to russia and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
«France is one of our key partners. In this war, we feel the strong support of our French friends - at the political, military, humanitarian and cultural levels,» said Ruslan Stefanchuk.
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine thanked the French senators for their clear and principled position in support of Ukraine.
