«Ukraine in the Time of Trump, Tariffs and Renewed Europe,» was one of the side-events' topics within GLOBSEC Forum 2025, where the First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Oleksandr Korniienko took part.
«And there was a lot of talk about our country here, which shows that the international agenda is paying attention to Ukrainian issues, and that without a stable, secure and strong Ukraine, it is impossible to talk about a stable, secure and strong world,» said the First Deputy Speaker.
During the event, it was noted that Ukraine, which is now entering the fourth year of a full-scale war, is forced to exist in a geopolitical environment that has become more complex and unpredictable than ever before. Whereas the country used to be able to count on unwavering international support, it now faces shifting alliances and growing uncertainty on the part of key partners. At the same time, Ukraine stands at a historic crossroads: its ability to strengthen its own defence production, make efficient use of strategic resources and attract long-term investment will determine not only its resilience and recovery, but also the broader stability of Europe.
«We focused on two areas: the geopolitical situation and the path to sustainability. The purpose of the discussion was to find an answer to the question: «Can Ukraine turn today's challenges into a long-term strength?» Yes. It can. And there are two key components for this,» said Oleksandr Korniienko.
The first part, according to Oleksandr Korniienko, is a sanction policy.
«Further expansion of restrictions on key sectors of the russian economy, such as metallurgy, nuclear and chemical industries, IT services and the financial sector, as well as a complete ban on russian liquefied natural gas, oil products, and an embargo on russian grain, fertilisers and raw materials, remain critical. This is the field of action for our partners,» he emphasised.
The second component is the military issue. According to the First Deputy Speaker, Ukraine has made significant progress in the field of military technology - its own development of weapons and drones. This is something that Ukraine can already share with partners and move forward together. «We are ready to develop this area by attracting investments. At the same time, we need further support in military assistance, particularly in air defence. This is an effective way to protect civilians from russian missile attacks, which have recently become more intense. If we do not stop russia and putin now, we will actually allow him to move on,» said Oleksandr Korniienko.
The strength of Ukraine's defence capabilities and its attractiveness to global investors will determine not only the country's further development, but also the future security architecture of Europe. Along with serious challenges, our country faces extraordinary opportunities.
Oleksandr Korniienko thanked the countries that remain by Ukraine's side and strive for a just and comprehensive peace. «The unity of the world and decisive joint actions against the enemy are important to stop it and make it impossible to repeat the aggression forever,» the First Deputy Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada summed up.
