On the eve of the Day of Remembrance and Victory over nazism, commemorated on May 8, First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko visited the renowned 59th Separate Assault Brigade of Unmanned Systems named after Yakiv Handziuk.

The First Deputy Speaker was accompanied by Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation Arsenii Pushkarenko; Head of the Subcommittee on Social Protection of Children Affected by the Armed Aggression of the russian federation against Ukraine since 2014, under the Committee on Social Policy and Protection of Veterans' Rights, Tetiana Tsyba; as well as Member of the Committee on National Security, Defence and Intelligence, Dmytro Pryputen.

«We delivered Maviсs [drones] to support the fight against the occupiers. May these 'birds' help bring the heat to those who defile our land,» the First Deputy Speaker noted.

Oleksandr Korniienko also presented certificates of recognition from the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to the defenders of Ukraine — in acknowledgment of their significant personal contribution to the defense of state sovereignty and territorial integrity, for the courage and bravery demonstrated in the line of duty under conditions of armed aggression by the russian federation, as well as for their high level of professionalism.

«We are grateful for your struggle, your protection, and your resilience. Today, as we remember the victims of the Second World War, we also honour the victims of the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian war. Back then, our parents and grandparents aspired to end wars on Earth. Today, we continue that fight — for a just peace — and share the same goal: to prevent the recurrence of such horrific tragedies, to stop the aggressor, and to ensure that no one ever again comes with weapons to another’s home», he stated.

Together with his colleagues, Oleksandr Korniienko held discussions with the brigade’s commander and service members, learning about their current needs, the operational situation, and the measures required to enhance the brigade’s capabilities.

According to him, the key aspect in supporting Ukrainian soldiers on the front line is the absence of delays. Defenders cannot afford to wait, as lives and the security of Ukrainian territories depend on timely action.

Oleksandr Korniienko called on Ukrainians to support their friends and units, to stand in solidarity, to contribute, and to do everything possible on the home front so that the soldiers at the front line remain confident, well-equipped, and able to continue withstanding the enemy’s brutal onslaught.

Tetiana Tsyba, Head of the Subcommittee on Social Protection of Children Affected by the Armed Aggression of the russian federation against Ukraine since 2014, under the Committee on Social Policy and Protection of Veterans’ Rights, expressed her gratitude to all those who defend Ukraine and to those who await the return of their loved ones.
