On 18 April, First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko held a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Ukraine Seymur Qurban oğlu Mardaliyev.
‘We are grateful to your country for its consistent support of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, for resolutions and measures in support of our country,’ Oleksandr Korniienko stated at the beginning of the meeting.
The parties discussed topical issues of the development of Ukrainian-Azerbaijani relationship, in particular in the context of the challenges faced by the international community in recent years.
Particular attention was paid to the intensification of inter-parliamentary cooperation, notably at the level of specialised committees and the inter-parliamentary friendship group. Oleksandr Korniyenko stressed that it is very important for Ukraine to invite the Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Sahiba Aliyeva to Ukraine as part of interparliamentary cooperation. «She will be able to see with her own eyes what russia is doing on Ukrainian soil,» said Oleksandr Korniienko.
The parties also discussed the potential for Azerbaijan's participation in projects to rebuild and restore Ukraine, which will be another important step in the development of partnership between the two countries. The First Vice Speaker praised the agreement with Azerbaijan on the restoration of the city of Irpin, which was seriously damaged by the russian full-scale invasion in early 2022, when the russian troops tried to take control of the city in the first days of the large-scale invasion.
