The First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko held a working meeting with NATO Senior Representative to Ukraine Patrick Turner and Head of the Political Section Mel McNulty.

The parties discussed the results of the meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Interparliamentary Council (UNIC) held in Brussels in January 2025, as well as the situation on the Ukrainian front.

Oleksandr Korniienko said that the Parliament is actively considering Ukraine’s membership in NATO, in particular in terms of adapting national legislation to NATO standards. “I stressed that security guarantees are the way to a just peace. And Ukraine’s accession to the Alliance is important and necessary for everyone,” said the First Vice Speaker.

The parties also discussed the military potential of Ukraine and the Ukrainian army. “Over the years, we have demonstrated a high capacity for new developments and production of our own weapons. Military-tech is one of the vectors we are working on,” said the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

Oleksandr Korniienko thanked Patrick Turner and Mel McNulty for a productive conversation, stressing the importance of further cooperation to strengthen Ukraine’s security and defence capabilities.
