The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine met with the parliamentary delegation of the Slovak Republic headed by the leader of the opposition party ‘Progressive Slovakia’ Michal Šimečka.
During the meeting, the parties discussed common challenges, in particular the security situation in the region, as well as the importance of friendship and cooperation between the two countries to overcome them. Ruslan Stefanchuk stressed that Ukraine highly appreciates the position of the political forces in Slovakia, which are aware of the threats posed by the russian federation and consistently support our country.
In the context of Ukraine’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration, the Chairman of the Parliament stressed the importance of Slovakia’s support for Ukraine’s course towards NATO membership. “Participation in the Alliance is a key guarantee of Ukraine’s security, stability in the region and prevention of new aggressions,” Ruslan Stefanchuk stressed.
The Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament also expressed concern about the anti-Ukrainian statements of the Slovak government, noting that they do not meet the interests of the peoples of both countries. He expressed hope that the awareness of the risks associated with flirting with russia would help to restore the spirit of good neighbourliness and mutual understanding in bilateral relations.
