On the eve of the Third Parliamentary Summit of the International Crimea Platform, scheduled for October 24 in Riga, a significant meeting took place between Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk and President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Theodoros Roussopoulos.
At the start of the meeting, Ruslan Stefanchuk
expressed his gratitude for the decisions consistently made by PACE in support
of Ukraine since the beginning of russia’s aggressive war. "I am sincerely
grateful for PACE’s continuous policy, its decisions, and the resolutions aimed
at supporting the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of
Ukraine," said Ruslan Stefanchuk.
The discussion also focused on further political support for Ukraine. "The
assessments of the russian regime presented in the Assembly’s resolutions, and
PACE’s continued objective and principled stance on russia, are of paramount
importance to us," emphasized the Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament.
Ruslan Stefanchuk provided a detailed overview of the points of the Victory
Plan, which was presented by President Zelenskyy a week ago in the Verkhovna
Rada. He expressed hope for the support of the Plan by all members of the
Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. "This is particularly
important," stressed the Chairman, "as the Victory Plan is a key tool
for implementing President Zelenskyy's Peace Formula."
The parties also discussed the security situation and Ukraine's urgent defense needs, with Stefanchuk emphasizing the necessity of strengthening Ukraine’s air defense systems.
Special attention during the meeting was given to the effectiveness of sanctions against russia. The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada expressed hope that efforts to increase pressure on the aggressor would continue.
