The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk, joined the academic community, diplomatic corps, and military personnel in commemorating the 190th anniversary of the founding of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.

At the beginning of the event, the Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament noted that this year, on March 9, the nation celebrated the 210th anniversary of the birth of Taras Shevchenko. This year also marks the 190th anniversary of the grand opening of the University.

“This is another opportunity to emphasize that Taras Shevchenko unites us. We all feel the same heartfelt emotion when listening to 'Kateryna.' We equally empathize with open hearts when reading, 'There are no such enemies. So dire as good people.' And we equally embrace, as part of our nation’s genetic code, the words declared in 'Testament,'” Ruslan Stefanchuk remarked.

According to him, the idea of unity is the guiding theme of the Ukrainian nation, an idea that the aggressor cannot counter. The words of the national genius have helped Ukrainians in their long-standing fight for national identity over the decades.
