During the meeting, which took place in the framework of the G7 Summit of the Speakers of the Parliaments, which is taking place on 05-07 September in Verona, Italy, Ruslan Stefanchuk thanked Canada for its continued military support of Ukraine and noted the importance of the signed Agreement on Strategic Security Cooperation between our countries.

The conversation focused on the security situation. Ruslan Stefanchuk emphasised that russia continues its attacks and terrorisation of the civilian population. He called for a strong and effective decision to get our partners' consent to use the weapons provided to us to hit military targets in russia.

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada drew attention to the key needs of Ukraine, including additional air defence systems and missiles. He also focused on the issue of sanctions – comprehensive, sectoral and personal sanctions, without the possibility of circumventing restrictions imposed by the terrorist state.

Ruslan Stefanchuk expressed his gratitude to Canada for participating in the First Global Peace Summit, which demonstrated the unity of the international community and sent a clear message to russia that the democratic world does not support its aggressive war against Ukraine.

They also discussed inter-parliamentary cooperation and the continuation of active dialogue between our parliaments. Ruslan Stefanchuk expressed hope for further strengthening of cooperation at the level of the permanent delegations of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the Parliament of Canada to the parliamentary assemblies of international and regional organisations, especially in countering russian armed aggression.

Special attention was paid to Canada's presidency of the Group of Seven next year. The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine expressed hope that Ukraine would continue to participate in all formats of the Group of Seven.
