The meeting took place on the sidelines of the G7 Summit of the Speakers of the Parliaments, which is taking place on 05-07 September in Verona, Italy. First of all, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine thanked his colleague for the consistent position of the Japanese Parliament and Government in defence of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and noted the importance of Japan's financial and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine.

The Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament spoke about the constant terror and shelling of Ukrainian cities by russians, which have intensified in recent days. “As a result of the shelling, civilian Ukrainians, including children, are being killed. That is why it is important to consolidate all international efforts to support Ukraine,” said Ruslan Stefanchuk.

At the same time, he stressed the importance of supporting Ukraine's energy sector in view of the lost energy generating capacity as a result of shelling by the aggressor state.

The Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament paid special attention to the importance of strengthening sanctions against the aggressor state and confiscating its assets. “We ask you not to stop with the frozen assets of the russian federation, but to continue searching for options for their direct use to support Ukraine. russia must pay the bill for the war, and its top political and military leadership, as well as individual perpetrators, must be fairly punished for all the crimes committed,” stressed Ruslan Stefanchuk. He also thanked Japan for its consistent support of sanctions and expressed hope for further pressure against the aggressor state.

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine paid special attention to the implementation of the 10 points of the President Zelenskyi's Peace Formula, which are of priority importance for the restoration of a just peace and strengthening of the global security system.

Finally, the parties discussed the possibility of further expanding cooperation between the parliaments of Ukraine and Japan.
