First of all, all those present paid tribute to the doctors and nurses who died in the line of duty with a minute of silence.
The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine expressed his gratitude for all that doctors do today with their superhuman work: “I appreciate how much you do to ensure that Ukraine has a chance to withstand.”
“You save lives and health – the highest human values of each of us. By saving the lives and health of the best sons and daughters who are now on the front line, you give hope for our common victory,” Ruslan Stefanchuk said.
The Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine assured that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has always been and will always be a partner of medical workers, as the MPs of Ukraine adopt all the necessary legislative acts to protect medical labour and patients.
For his part, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko stressed that a doctor is a person who accompanies everyone throughout their lives. He also noted that the state should always do a lot for the medical profession. “Over the past five years, a lot has been done – from improving working conditions, raising the level of financial support to Ukraine's European integration reforms,” said Oleksandr Korniienko.
“Even during a major war, the state and partners find ways to support our medical sector, and this will continue,” he added, expressing his gratitude to all medical professionals for their work: “Special thanks and gratitude go to military medics, paramedics, those who are now at the front, helping and treating the wounded in the rear.”
Addressing the medical professionals present, the Chairman of the Committee on National Health, Medical Assistance and Medical Insurance Mykhailo Radutskyi stressed that every doctor today is essentially a rescuer who saves the lives of others, sometimes sacrificing his or her own. He recalled the heroism of our doctors during the russian missile attack on the Okhmatdyt children's hospital, who, despite everything, continued to operate on young children and began to clear the rubble to rescue the victims. Mykhailo Radutskyi thanked the medics for all their efforts to bring Ukraine's victory closer, expressing his gratitude for celebrating the Ukrainian Day of Medical Workers, not the soviet or russian one, but the Ukrainian one, in accordance with last year's Presidential Decree No. 327/2023, which established a professional holiday for healthcare workers – the Day of Medical Workers.
Finally, with the participation of the Secretary General of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Viacheslav Shtuchnyi, the Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine presented the healthcare workers with the Certificates of Appreciation of the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
