The meeting took place on the sidelines of the NATO Parliamentary Speakers' Summit in Washington, DC.
First of all, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk thanked the President of the Senate of the Romanian Parliament Nicolae Ciucă for Romania's constant practical support of Ukraine and the Ukrainian people, especially for assistance in strengthening Ukraine's defence capabilities.
Ruslan Stefanchuk stressed that the decision to transfer the Patriot air defence system from Romania is very valuable for Ukraine. "The more protected Ukrainian skies are, the more lives of Ukrainian civilians will be saved," he said.
Continuing the discussion of the defence capability of our country, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine outlined the urgent needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In particular, he stressed that it is extremely important for Ukraine to receive permission from its partners to strike against russian military targets. "This can stop the russian terror," Ruslan Stefanchuk stressed.
The speakers also exchanged views on the link between the Ukrainian and Romanian parliaments. "I am convinced that the dialogue between our institutions should be further intensified," said the Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament.
In conclusion, the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine invited his Romanian counterpart to pay an official visit to Kyiv.
