"This time, this event is of particular importance, as it is the result of an unprecedentedly open and challenging competition," said the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk, noting that the appointment of the new judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, Serhii Riznyk, was completely apolitical and based on a thorough analysis of his moral, ethical and professional qualities: "This proves in practice our unchanging European integration course".
The Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine expressed his belief that this example will be only the first step in establishing a new tradition of forming the composition of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, when the task of the appointing authorities will be to find independent, honest and professional candidates, not those who are convenient or loyal. "This is the common interest of all of us. This is a national interest of the entire Ukrainian people. Especially in times of war," he stressed.
At the same time, Ruslan Stefanchuk noted that the current convocation of the Parliament has faced the most difficult historical challenge — to ensure the representation of the Ukrainian people in these conditions, to ensure democracy in a country where large-scale hostilities are taking place on a daily basis.
"For the people to be free and strong, for them to be able to fight and win, we must protect our democracy. This can only be achieved by respecting and protecting the Constitution, perceiving it not as a pompous declaration, but as a real guide for state activity. This is an act of the constituent power of the Ukrainian people, who created, fought for, and now defend their own state so that it can protect the rights and freedoms of every Ukrainian," the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stressed.
"And until the last invader leaves the territory of the Ukrainian state, the main thing that all public authorities should do is to help our army and our Ukrainian people every day and tirelessly to speed up the victory," said Ruslan Stefanchuk.
In conclusion, he
stressed that the Constitutional Court of Ukraine must also do its part in a
systematic, consistent, and most importantly, fair manner. The Speaker of the
Parliament of Ukraine wished the new judge of the Constitutional Court of
Ukraine, Serhii Riznyk, inspiration in this difficult and responsible work, and
the entire Constitutional Court of Ukraine — great success in establishing the
rule of law and the national Constitution.
