Oleksandr Korniienko, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, delivered a welcoming speech at the parliamentary-municipal dialogue forum “Housing for Internally Displaced Persons”.

“The topic is important, given the huge problem. The enemy offensive continues and the number of IDPs is increasing. The state must look for mechanisms to resolve the issues, in particular, to do so in the “quadrangle” – with the executive, local and central authorities and our international partners,” the First Vice Speaker stressed.

At the same time, he noted that the task for the Parliament and the Government is to develop policies that will take into account the interests of all parties and coordinate their positions to the maximum extent possible – “to enable people to get housing, builders to get jobs, orders for this housing, and local communities to get additional points of development.” “After all, we understand that each community and its capacity depends, among other things, on how many people there are, what they are engaged in, and what economic potential the communities have.”

In addition, Oleksandr Korniienko reminded that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has recently ratified Interreg packages for the implementation of spot projects, which is an opportunity for community development, including hosting internally displaced persons and creating conditions for them.

In conclusion, he stressed that he was looking forward to the conclusions of the Forum for further work. The First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine expressed his gratitude to the organisers and partners for their attention and support of this vector.

For reference. The Forum was organised with the participation of USAID – US Agency for International Development, Internews Ukraine and the USAID RADA: Next Generation Programme.
