During the meeting, the parties discussed important areas for interaction and cooperation.
First of all, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine emphasized that, despite the difficult times in the country, the Parliament of Ukraine continues to work and carry out its international activities. He expressed his gratitude to the political forces that defend democratic principles and the rule of law not only in Austria, but also at the level of the European Union and far beyond: "It is very important to defend values not only in words, but also in concrete actions."
"Ukraine wants to become a member of the European Union not just formally, we want to bring our living standards closer to the European ones," Oleksandr Korniyenko emphasized, noting that this requires a long way to go — and Ukraine is dealing with all the necessary issues despite the war.
He also thanked Austria for its support of Ukraine's course toward EU membership: "We must maintain the existing positive dynamics on this track." In particular, for the support of the implementation of the EU's financial support program for Ukraine in 2024-2027 — Ukraine Facility, which is already starting to work.
At the same time, Oleksandr Korniyenko expressed the expectations for assistance with the development of rehabilitation centers in Ukraine, "one of our priority areas of development."
Finally, during the meeting, the First Vice Speaker emphasized the need to implement the Peace Formula of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy. "We would be grateful for assistance in engaging the countries of Asia, Africa and Latin America in the implementation of the Formula," he said, adding that Ukraine looks forward to Austria's participation in the Global Peace Summit.
The meeting was also attended by Oleksandr Tkachenko, Member of Parliament of Ukraine, the Deputy Head of the Parliamentary Group for Interparliamentary Relations with the Republic of Austria.
