The Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk held a working meeting with representatives of the Parliamentary Friendship Group between Ukraine and Poland, who arrived in Ukraine on a visit.

First of all, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk emphasized the importance of continuing military support, as Ukraine urgently needs additional air defense systems to protect cities from missile attacks by the russian federation. “Ukraine continues to need air defense systems along with missiles for them, aircraft, artillery, tanks and ammunition, armored vehicles, drones and anti-drone systems, long-range missiles these are the things that are essential today for Ukraine to turn the tide of the war in our common favor.”

The parties also discussed Ukraine's path to the European Union and NATO. The Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine thanked the representatives of the Senate and the Sejm of Poland for their strong parliamentary advocacy of this track. In addition, he expressed his expectation that the Washington Summit would be effective for Ukraine: “Our goal is an effective Washington summit in July, where important decisions on strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities and a political decision to invite Ukraine to join the Alliance should be made.”

“Sanctions pressure on russia must continue, first of all, to prevent further use of its military machine by russia,” Ruslan Stefanchuk said.

At the same time, he appealed to Poland to join the system of security guarantees for Ukraine, which Ukraine has already signed with a number of countries. “We are looking forward to the start of consultations on the elaboration of the relevant agreement between Ukraine and Poland,” emphasized Ruslan Stefanchuk, expressing hope that all issues related to the preparation and signing of such an agreement will be finalized in the near future.

The meeting also touched upon the implementation of the President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's Peace Formula. “This plan remains the only realistic and comprehensive plan to restore Ukraine's territorial integrity and ensure security and justice for the international community,” the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine emphasized. He also noted that active work is underway to prepare the inaugural summit of the Peace Formula in Switzerland.

Ruslan Stefanchuk expressed gratitude for all the assistance provided by Poland to Ukraine, in particular, for sheltering our citizens who fled the war started by the russian federation.

He also thanked the Sejm and the Senate of the Republic of Poland for supporting Ukraine in all areas, which is an important factor in interparliamentary cooperation. In particular, an example of such cooperation should be the development of an international compensation mechanism: “It is our job as parliamentarians to create the legislative framework for this mechanism to work both in our countries and internationally.”

For their part, the Polish delegates reiterated their support for Ukraine on its path to the European Union and NATO, noting that Ukraine's accession to the Alliance is very important to Poland.

Regarding Ukraine's progress towards the European Union, representatives of the Polish Senate and Sejm also noted that Poland's presidency of the European Union from January 1, 2025, is an important factor in this matter.

Polish delegates assured that Ukraine and Poland have common strategic goals, and such common goals and relations will bring a common victory.
