The First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko took part in a public discussion "Democratic Resilience of the Parliament in the Time of War: Trust and the Role of Civil Society".

"Civil society is an important political actor that defends interests at all levels and options, including in the Parliament," said Oleksandr Korniienko, while emphasising an important component – the involvement of relevant communities/organisations/associations at the stage of working groups.

In addition, he emphasized that Ukraine's European integration path is unique, because Ukraine is going through it during a full-scale war: "These are huge challenges, first of all, organisational and legal ones how we can ensure greater inclusiveness and participation of civil society in decision-making while continuing to be under martial law." Oleksandr Korniienko stressed that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is constantly working on this: "We are doing everything we can to ensure that the participation of representatives of civil society organisations is ensured."

Finally, he emphasized the next steps that are in the focus of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, in particular, measures on parliamentary reform and the adoption of the Law on Public Consultations.
