"It is important to turn to the European experience in electoral legislation for the sake of the most effective steps on our part," said Oleksandr Korniyenko, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, during the round table "On the way to the European Union: harmonization of Ukrainian electoral legislation with EU law".
The First Deputy Chairman noted that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is ready to implement the necessary measures, and where necessary, at an accelerated pace.
"Our convocation has demonstrated that we treat the Electoral Code of Ukraine with respect, and we make all changes with a view to preserving its basic principles," emphasized Oleksandr Korniyenko.
At the same time, he added that elections in Ukraine should be held in conditions that will ensure their democratic nature and recognition: "We also have a task to strengthen the institutional capacity of the Central Election Commission of Ukraine and the bodies that maintain the Register."
"We definitely do not support the majoritarian system and its return at the national level should not even be discussed in any form. But we must pay attention to all related processes, including the media story and the professionalization of the commission members," the First Deputy Chairman noted.
In addition, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine called for "stopping political slogans at the threshold of such discussions and leaving them for future TV broadcasts, which will definitely be before the elections."
Finally, Oleksandr
Kornienko expressed his gratitude to the participants and partners: "There
is a lot of work to be done, and we can do it."
