“An important discussion, given the European integration track of Ukraine. We now have seven tasks and expectations for this year’s opening of the negotiation process,” the First Vice Speaker stressed during the presentation of the results of the study “The Impact of Judicial Intervention: the Role of General Courts in the Course of Reforms in Ukraine” to the Agency for Legislative Initiatives.

At the same time, he noted that all reforms have two significant indicators – quality and sustainability: “Not only adoption, but also successful results of their implementation”. Oleksandr Korniienko noted that this is evidenced by the experience of partners who have recently joined the European Union. “The European Commission will evaluate the sustainable impact of our reforms and norms,” the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine emphasised.

“The tasks include work on improving the quality of the acts that shape the reform and the institutional capacity of all levels, including the judiciary,” said Oleksandr Korniienko, adding that when it comes to a normal judicial system, this also means improving the institutional capacity of the administration of the courts of Ukraine: “We need to revise the systems and approaches to remuneration, recruitment and performance of duties. We are now fighting for an equalised system of remuneration for all employees.”

“Society also expects to improve the quality of the judicial system, which includes the selection system and international experts – this is the area in which we have done a lot to make it work,” he said.

In conclusion, the First Vice Speaker expressed his gratitude to the Agency for Legislative Initiatives for the research and to the participants for the discussion, because “every discussion and dialogue helps to do more and better for the future of a successful Ukraine.”

For reference. The study was prepared within the framework of the project “Civil Society for Ukraine’s Post-War Reconstruction and EU Readiness”, funded by the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine.
