The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk held a videoconference with the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Suriname Marinus Bee.

"It is extremely important for Ukraine to enlist the support of the countries of the Global South. We need to tell the leaders of Latin America the truth and tell them what is really happening in Ukraine," said Ruslan Stefanchuk.

"russia continues to wage a very brutal, genocidal and aggressive war against Ukraine and Ukrainians, violating all international norms and rules. The list of the kremlin's crimes continues to grow every day," he said.

In addition, the Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine drew his colleague's attention to the crimes committed by the russian federation in Ukraine, in particular, the blowing up of the Kakhovka hydroelectric dam, which caused a huge humanitarian and environmental crisis. The Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine said that hundreds of thousands of people, as well as the entire ecosystem of the region, have been affected by this tragedy.

During the meeting, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine called on the Republic of Suriname to condemn the act of ecocide committed by russia: "Indifference to ecocide and human tragedy only encourages the aggressor." "The estimated amount of damage to the environment due to the explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station is already more than one and a half billion euros, and the destruction of the Kakhovka reservoir poses a threat of an accident at another russian-occupied critical infrastructure facility — the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant," he stressed.

Ruslan Stefanchuk also called on Suriname to adhere to the current sanctions regime against russia and support the peace formulas of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi by choosing one or more areas of the initiative. "Depriving russia of the resources to continue the war is a prerequisite for achieving peace," said the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

The Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine also called on the country to join the creation of a special international tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine, which currently includes 38 countries.

For his part, the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Suriname stressed that Suriname supports peace, not war, and Suriname will do everything in its power to end this war.

In conclusion, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine invited the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Suriname Marinus Bie to participate in the Second Parliamentary Summit of the International Crimean Platform, which will be held on 24 October in the Czech Republic.
