This was stated by the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine during a meeting with the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Sweden Jan Knutsson.
First of all, Ruslan Stefanchuk noted that one of the main messages to our partners and allies today is “a request to give Ukraine the wings of future victory”. During the meeting, he focused on fourth-generation combat aircraft and called on Sweden to consider providing Ukraine with Gripen fighter jets. “Ukraine is pursuing a very active international policy to unite around Ukraine, which would create an internal impetus for victory in this terrible war,” said Ruslan Stefanchuk.
The parties also discussed Ukraine’s path to full membership in the European Union, given Sweden’s presidency of the Council of the European Union.
“We expect to start negotiations on Ukraine’s full membership by the end of this year,” said Ruslan Stefanchuk, informing the Secretary of State on the implementation of the European Commission’s recommendations for Ukraine’s membership in the European Union.
“I look forward to further effective cooperation with Sweden in the Core Group coalition to establish a special tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine,” the Speaker of the Parliament of Ukraine stressed. He also noted that Ukraine sees only a just peace through the peace formula proposed by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi.
During the meeting, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine also raised the issue of rebuilding Ukraine. “The rebuilding of Ukraine should become a success story for the entire civilised world,” he said, calling on Sweden to support Ukraine in this matter by identifying further areas of reconstruction.
In conclusion, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine expressed gratitude to the Kingdom of Sweden for the comprehensive assistance and support that “Ukraine feels and receives at all levels, both directly from the people and the leadership of Sweden”.
