In the framework of his working visit to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko met with the delegation of the Republic of Slovenia on the sidelines of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.
“The NATO PA is an additional opportunity to agree on further joint actions to counter the challenges and threats posed by russia’s aggression against Ukraine,” the First Vice Speaker stressed.
During the meeting, Oleksandr Korniienko also stressed the importance of recognising the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as an act of genocide against the Ukrainian people: “We are counting on the adoption of the relevant resolution by the State Assembly of Slovenia.”
The parties also discussed the influence of the russian federation on the countries of the Global South and the Middle East. The First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine informed about the work of the Ukrainian side at the 146th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union. “Representatives of states from these areas have begun to listen and hear us,” he said.
At the same time, Oleksandr Korniienko noted that mechanisms should be put in place to compensate the russian federation for the damage caused to Ukraine.
“With the help of the international community, we are striving to stop the terrorist state and win for the sake of our and the world’s security,” said the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
“A friendly meeting with in-depth discussions between the Slovenian and Ukrainian delegations to the NATO PA,” said Matej Tonin, the Head of the delegation of the Republic of Slovenia. For their part, the Slovenian colleagues said that the Ukrainian delegation emphasised the strengthening and continuation of military assistance, further support for the imposition of sanctions against russia, and the international investigation of russian crimes.
The meeting was also attended by the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Foreign Policy and Interparliamentary Cooperation Oleksandr Merezhko, the Deputy Chairman of the Committee on National Security, Defence and Intelligence, Head of the Permanent Delegation of Ukraine to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Yehor Chernev, the Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Law Enforcement Halyna Mykhailyuk, and member of the Committee on National Security, Defence and Intelligence Solomiia Bobrovska.
