During his working visit to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko met with the President of the Chamber of Deputies of Luxembourg Fernand Etgen.

The parties discussed Ukraine’s integration into the European Union and NATO, as well as other important steps on the path to victory.

During the meeting, the First Vice Speaker stressed the importance of implementing the peace formula presented by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi: “It clearly and understandably conveys our ideas, in particular, the restoration of Ukraine’s territorial integrity within the internationally recognised borders of 1991.”

“We need to create a special international tribunal to bring everyone guilty of crimes to justice,” said Oleksandr Korniienko, adding that this would send a powerful signal that aggression does not go unpunished.

The meeting participants also discussed the creation of mechanisms to compensate russia for its losses: “We are grateful to the Luxembourg side for the first steps in this matter.”

At the same time, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine expressed gratitude for the support of Ukraine’s aspirations to join the EU and the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation: “Ukraine is moving very quickly on the issue of candidacy – we expect the opening of the negotiation process on membership in the European Union this year.”

“We understand the suffering that the Ukrainian people are going through – with strength, courage and bravery, you are fighting for freedom, peace and defending our democratic values. Your presence today is a testament to the fact that our peoples are united, stand by each other and will always stand by each other,” said Fernand Etgen, the President of the Chamber of Deputies of Luxembourg.

He assured that the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg supports and will continue to support Ukraine in its struggle for peace and democracy, as well as in its mission to rebuild the country.

“Luxembourg will continue to contribute to strengthening sanctions against the russian federation and will do everything to prevent any deviation from their observance,” Fernand Etgen stressed.

“Ukraine is going through dark times, but Ukrainians, despite everything, remain united – together with the President, you are fighting for freedom,” said Fernand Etgen, the President of the Chamber of Deputies of Luxembourg, while paying tribute to all those who gave their lives fighting for truth and peace on the battlefield.

As part of the meeting, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine also made an entry in the Book of Honour.
