This was stated by the Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Olena Kondratiuk during a meeting with Icelandic Minister of Justice Jon Gunnarsson in Reykjavik, which was attended by the MP Mariia Ionova.
The main topic of the meeting was specific legal mechanisms for bringing russia to justice.
In particular, they discussed the need to establish an international special task force and Iceland’s support for the creation of an International Center for the Investigation of the Crime of Aggression of the russian federation against Ukraine in The Hague.
The parties also discussed the mechanisms of the Register of Compensation for Damages Caused by russia in Ukraine, which will be presented at the Council of Europe Summit on May 16-17 in Reykjavik.
“We touched upon the important topic of returning home Ukrainian children abducted by russia. I emphasized the need to develop a common position of the Nordic governments on the changes that should take place in international organizations aimed at protecting children’s rights, in particular, against illegal deportation,” emphasized Olena Kondratiuk.
She emphasized that such changes are long overdue in the activities of the International Committee of the Red Cross and UN structures.
