During the first day of his working visit to Vilnius, the capital of the Republic of Lithuania, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko met with the Lithuanian MPs and Speaker of the Seimas of Lithuania Viktorija Cmilyte-Nielsen and took part in the opening of cultural events in support of Ukraine.
During the meeting with the members of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania – Zygimantas Pavilionis, Laurynas Kasciunas, Raimundas Lopata, Audronius Azubalis – the First Vice-Speaker discussed issues important for Ukraine, in particular, Ukraine’s accession to NATO and joint work on expanding the coalition of countries supporting Ukraine’s aspirations.
“When Ukraine is spoken about outside its borders, it is a powerful signal of solidarity with our people and a stand for the truth,” Oleksandr Korniienko emphasized during the opening of the event “Honoring the Heroic Struggle of Mariupol Defenders” and the screening of the film “My War” about the resistance of the Ukrainian nation. He noted that these are important events, as the deeds of Ukrainians are recorded in history: “The world will always remember the heroism of the Ukrainian people and the struggle for freedom and independence. And everyone guilty of crimes committed on the territory of a sovereign state must be brought to justice.”
Also, during the first working day of the visit, the First Deputy Chairman of the Parliament of Ukraine visited the photo exhibition of Ukrainian photographers “They protect us” in the Lithuanian Seimas, which shows the struggle of the Ukrainian people and the consequences of the military aggression of the terrorist state.
Oleksandr Korniienko emphasized Lithuania’s tangible support for Ukrainians living in Vilnius. He informed that a centre for education and culture of Ukrainians was established under the patronage of the First Ladies of Ukraine and Lithuania, Olena Zelenska and Diana Nausediene. The First Vice Speaker had the opportunity to talk to young Ukrainians who had just visited the centre.
Oleksandr Korniienko thanked the Speaker of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, Viktorija Cmilyte-Nielsen, for her personal position and decisive actions, as well as the Vice Speaker, Radvile Morkunaite-Mikuleniene, for her patronage and support of the exhibition.
“Lithuania is always with us and among the first to act for the sake of future peace and security in the world,” the First Vice Speaker emphasized during a meeting with the Speaker of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, Viktorija Cmilyte-Nielsen.
He said that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the Seimas has adopted 14 resolutions in support of Ukraine and condemning russia’s actions – 14 effective steps on the way to victory.
“We have intensified important instruments of interparliamentary cooperation – the Parliamentary Assemblies of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the Seimas of Lithuania, as well as the Ukraine-Lithuania-Poland Interparliamentary Assembly,” emphasized Oleksandr Korniienko.
“Lithuania believed in our victory from the first day of the full-scale war. Together with the free world, we will achieve peace and security,” emphasized the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko.
