The First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko met with the Vice-Speaker of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania Paulius Saudargas during a working visit.
The parties discussed a number of important issues, including Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic integration.
“It is here that many important decisions are made first to support Ukraine, setting a powerful example for the world,” Oleksandr Korniienko emphasized.
During the meeting, the First Vice Speaker emphasized Ukraine’s expectations on the eve of important NATO events. First, it is the adoption of an important resolution for Ukraine at the NATO Parliamentary Assembly. Secondly, the need for a specific algorithm of Ukraine’s movement towards the Alliance. Third, security guarantees for Ukraine from the decisions of the Vilnius Summit.
“On the way to membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, we face many challenges related to the transition to the relevant standards,” said Oleksandr Korniienko, adding that the Parliament of Ukraine is ready for these challenges in terms of implementing the legislation.
The First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine expressed gratitude for the strong support of the Republic of Lithuania for Ukraine on its path to NATO, expressed in the resolution of April 6. This document calls on the Allies to recognize the need to invite Ukraine to join NATO at the NATO Summit in Vilnius.
“The Seimas’ steadfast position and its leading international role in supporting Ukraine is very valuable to us,” he emphasized.
"Our main focus is Ukraine. The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is an example of how to develop inter-parliamentary communication at the level of parliaments. This is especially important in the issue of reforms that Ukraine needs to implement in order to join the European Union and NATO," said the Vice Speaker of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania.
After the meeting, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko and Vice Speaker of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania Paulius Saudargas met with the Ukrainian military.
“I had the opportunity to personally communicate with
the defenders of Ukraine who are currently undergoing rehabilitation in
Lithuania,” said Oleksandr Korniienko, adding that it was important to hear the
opinions of Ukrainian defenders, discuss urgent issues and needs: “I am
grateful to each and every one who stood up to defend our country and
independence.”

The program includes participation of the First Vice Speaker in the Global Parliamentary Congress for the Future of the World, as well as a number of bilateral meetings with high-ranking officials and Lithuanian parliamentarians, members of inter-parliamentary security organizations.
