On Wednesday, May 3, the Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Portugal, Augusto Ernesto Santos Silva, who is on a working visit to Ukraine, addressed the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
On his Facebook page, the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko expressed gratitude to the Speaker of the Assembly of the Republic of Portugal for his strong support of Ukraine and today’s speech in the session hall.
“We heard an important message that Portuguese diplomacy can help in our common struggle and become a guide to the countries of the Global South to expand the international coalition of support. And, of course, we support this important step,” emphasized Oleksandr Korniienko. He also noted that justice and security can be achieved by uniting the world.
In his speech, the President of the Portuguese Parliament noted that “the coalition of countries that politically and diplomatically support Ukraine, condemning russian aggression without any reservations, is fortunately a very broad coalition.” “But we need to continue to expand this coalition, to facilitate dialogue between the countries of the so-called Global South, namely Africa and Latin America.”
He also promised that Portugal would help Ukraine in bringing it closer to these countries to jointly fight for Ukraine’s independence and territorial integrity: “Ukrainian borders are the borders of freedom, security and peace for the whole world.”
