The First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko held a working meeting with a delegation of the International Staff of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO).

“It is time to demonstrate significant and tangible results in the issue of Ukraine’s application for NATO membership,” the First Vice Speaker stressed.

During the meeting, Oleksandr Korniienko informed about the military situation in Ukraine: “The russian federation continues a full-scale aggressive war against a sovereign state and is unwilling to stop it. We must do everything possible to prevent this war from lasting for another year.”

At the same time, the parties discussed issues of importance to Ukraine regarding Ukraine’s North Atlantic integration and the events that will take place in the next two months.

“The society supports the course towards NATO, as evidenced by opinion polls. The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is ready to work hard and take all the necessary steps on this path,” the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine stressed.

In addition, he noted that the summit in Vilnius could be crucial for both Ukraine and the entire Euro-Atlantic community. “We expect that the Luxembourg session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in 2023 will take another important step towards Ukraine’s future membership in NATO, where a declaration with the strongest possible signals of political and practical support for Ukraine will be adopted,” said Oleksandr Korniienko, stressing that Ukraine’s victory is crucial for European and global security.

The meeting was also attended by Ukrainian MPs: the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defence and Intelligence Oleksandr Zavitnevych and the Member of the Permanent Delegation of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Halyna Mykhailyuk.
