The Deputy Chairperson of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Olena Kondratiuk met in Warsaw with Marshal of the Sejm of Poland Elzbieta Witek.

She recalled that at about the same time, a year ago, the parties had already met and discussed how, by combining the efforts of women speakers of the EU parliaments, they could help Ukraine and Ukrainians fleeing the war.

“Today we have discussed in detail how to return Ukrainian children abducted by russia. We discussed what the parliaments of Ukraine and Poland, as well as the entire united Europe, can and should do to help,”said Olena Kondratiuk.

On behalf of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the Deputy Speaker addressed Ms. Witek with a proposal to consider and adopt a separate resolution condemning the abduction of 16,210 Ukrainian children by the russian federation.

“These are only the figures that we have officially established, but there are many more children,” clarified Olena Kondratiuk.

For her part, the Polish Sejm Marshal Elzbieta Witek said that such a resolution could be prepared and would be considered in the near future.

“We are also planning to raise the issue of the return of Ukrainian children at the next meeting of women leaders of EU parliaments, which will take place soon.

We hope to use the joint efforts of our women’s European parliamentary movement to give maximum publicity to the issue of the return of Ukrainian children from russian captivity at the Conference of the Presidents of the Parliaments of the EU Member States in Prague, the April session of PACE and the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Council of Europe to be held in Iceland in May,” said the Deputy Speaker Olena Kondratiuk.
