This was emphasized by the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk during a conversation with journalists at the Munich Security Conference.
He noted that today’s Forum has once again raised issues related to the new security arrangement of the world, as russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine has shown the falsity and weakness of the current security architecture.
“Today we must again think about how to bring peace back to Europe. Therefore, the leitmotif of the event is undoubtedly the issue of Ukraine and the end of this war, the issue of peace and our common victory. The messages at the meeting today are in contrast to those that were voiced a year ago. We feel full support from all the participating countries,” emphasized Ruslan Stefanchuk.
He also said that on the first day of the event, the issues of involving leading countries in global and geopolitical support for Ukraine were discussed, including providing us with weapons, strengthening sanctions against russia, reparations for Ukraine, Ukraine’s accession to the EU and NATO, etc. Tomorrow, these same issues will be discussed in more detail and in a more focused manner at the various conference platforms.
When asked by journalists whether Ukraine fully feels the support promised and provided by its partners, Ruslan Stefanchuk replied that our country, like no other, understands the importance and value of timely assistance during the war.
“Everything that happens must happen in a timely manner. Every day Ukraine pays a high price – the price of the lives of its best representatives. And everyone should realize this,” the Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament emphasized and added that today we need to talk not only about ideas, intentions and support “as long as necessary”. And now Ukraine especially needs “quick actions, decisions and implementation of these decisions, which should lead to our victory.”
When asked about the possibility of negotiations to end the war, the Chairman of the Parliament of Ukraine noted that any war ends either on the battlefield or at the negotiating table. But in this process, he said, certain nuances are important: when it comes to negotiations, it is necessary to understand who to negotiate with and what to negotiate about.
“Some people still cherish the hope that Ukraine will negotiate with russia. I just want to remind you that this is the same russia that is Ukraine’s guarantor under the Budapest Memorandum. This is the same russia that promised peaceful corridors for Ukrainian citizens and immediately shot them. This is the same russia that abducts our children. Therefore, I have a question for you: is it possible to negotiate with a state that is already recognized as a terrorist around the world?” Ruslan Stefanchuk emphasized.
He also noted that our country is ready to demonstrate that, together with the whole world, it is able to cope with russia as an aggressor and make it atone for the bloodiest war of the 21st century.
“Ukraine will hold negotiations only after winning this war. And the subject of the negotiations will be the issue of compensation for all the damage caused by russia. It is important for us to do everything we can to bring peace back to the European and global arena. The main component of Ukraine’s peace formula is Ukraine’s victory,” the Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament emphasized, recalling that the peace formula was proposed by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi and consists of 10 important and effective points.
According to Ruslan Stefanchuk, at the conference, Ukraine will also appeal to the participating countries to support this formula and patronize its components.
“The formula is open. It is important for us to support it and for all of us to work together to build the logic of its implementation and completion. This is not a theorem, it is an axiom of our victory and peace,” the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine emphasized at the end of the press conference.
