First of all, the Ukrainian delegation headed by the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniienko met with Belgian MPs under the moderation of the chairmen of the two Committees of the Belgian Parliament: on Defense and Foreign Affairs.

“There were different factions at the meeting, but they all unite to help Ukraine,” the First Vice Speaker emphasized, expressing gratitude for the productive dialogue with Belgium and support of the Ukrainian people, “which gives hope for further deepening of relations.” Oleksandr Korniienko emphasized that in 2014 there was an insufficient reaction of the world to the beginning of russia’s armed aggression, which led to the development of events further – almost a year of full-scale invasion, occupation of Ukrainian territories, terror of civilians, murders and cruelty on the part of russia.

“We see violations of international law and the UN Charter. We see violations of all principles of humanity. And we want the war to end as it should – with the victory of Ukraine, the preservation of our borders recognized by the world, and for everyone responsible for this war to be held accountable for their crimes,” the First Deputy Chairman of the Parliament said.

“Ukraine has already proposed a plan to end the war – the Peace Formula. And we count on Belgium’s support and leadership in the implementation of one of the points of this Formula,” Oleksandr Korniienko said during a meeting with Belgian Minister of Defense Ludivine Dedonder. The First Vice Speaker informed about the security situation in Ukraine and expressed gratitude for the practical assistance. “We have a common goal – to bring russia to justice for its aggression against Ukraine, including its crimes against humanity,” he said, adding that work is underway on a UN General Assembly resolution on the responsibility of the perpetrators for each crime. Oleksandr Korniienko invited the Belgian side to support and help engage other countries in voting for this resolution, which should lay the groundwork for the establishment of the International Tribunal.

For her part, the Belgian Minister of Defense noted that during the meeting they discussed Belgium’s military support for Ukraine, as well as the assistance that is still being prepared. “We continue to cooperate with international partners to support Ukraine, we are united with the Ukrainian people,” she emphasized.

In addition, Oleksandr Korniienko voiced Ukraine’s expectation that the House of Representatives of the European Parliament will officially recognize the Holodomor of 1932-1933 in Ukraine as genocide of the Ukrainian people: “The famine, both before and now, is used by russia as a tool to satisfy its imperial ambitions.”

During the working visit to the Kingdom of Belgium, the Ukrainian delegation headed by the First Vice-Speaker Oleksandr Korniienko met with representatives of the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET).

“People continue to talk about Ukraine and support our decisions. We see it. We feel it,” emphasized Oleksandr Korniienko, expressing gratitude for the support and positive votes on Ukrainian decisions. He noted that Ukraine now has the status of an EU candidate, “and our goal is to become a member of the European Union.” “And we are taking all the necessary steps for this.”

“The Parliament is working closely with the Government and the EU side to effectively and timely adopt the necessary legislation on the European integration path,” emphasized the First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, saying that Ukraine is stepping up its fight against corruption and judicial reform: “This is already an irreversible stage. All procedures provided for by the law have been launched – the selection of members of the High Council of Justice, the formation of the High Qualification Commission of Judges.” In addition to the anti-corruption strategy, Oleksandr Korniienko informed about the declaration procedure and the consequences in case of violation.

“Yes, this is another of our ongoing struggles. And it has the same predetermined ending as russia’s war against Ukraine – victory over evil,” the First Vice Speaker summarized.

For reference. The Ukrainian delegation also includes the Representative of Ukraine to the European Union Vsevolod Chentsov, the Deputy Chairman of the Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence, the Head of the Permanent Delegation of Ukraine to the NATO PA Yehor Chernev, the Chairman of the Committee on Budget Roksolana Pidlasa, the Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Law Enforcement Halyna Mykhailyuk and the Chairman of the Committee on Integration of Ukraine into the European Union Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze.

“We are grateful to Belgium for its support and look forward to further fruitful cooperation for the victory of Ukraine and the world,” the First Vice Speaker Oleksandr Korniienko emphasized during a meeting with the President of the Belgian House of Representatives Eliane Tillieux.

The Ukrainian delegates expressed gratitude for all the assistance, including military, provided by Belgium, and informed about the situation in Ukraine, emphasizing the “basic needs right now.”

“It is important for Ukraine to achieve tangible results of the EU-Ukraine Summit in Kyiv. We are preparing to present the results of the implementation of all seven recommendations of the European Commission and expect a positive assessment of our efforts by the EU. After all, the Ukrainian people support the European integration path, and we will continue to follow this vector,” the First Vice Speaker emphasized.
