In the framework of the conference “Supporting parliamentary democracy around the world: building democratic resilience”, which is taking place in the European Parliament, the Secretary General of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Viacheslav Shtuchnyi held a series of bilateral meetings.
In particular, during the meeting with the President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola, the Secretary General of the European Parliament Klaus Welle and the Head of the Cabinet of the President of the European Parliament Alessandro Ciocchetti, the parties discussed further strengthening of cooperation at the level of the Secretariat of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the Secretariat of the European Parliament and committees.
“Our course is the European Union. Therefore, now our main task is to increase the level of institutional capacity of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, especially in the context of military aggression and in terms of Ukraine’s membership in the EU. This means that we must ensure an adequate level of professional training of the staff of the Secretariat, the Parliamentary Research Service to fulfil all the tasks,” said Viacheslav Shtuchnyi.
The Secretary General of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine also noted that at the stage of drafting bills it is important for the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to analyse them qualitatively and to ensure their compliance with EU directives and regulations. And in these matters the cooperation of parliaments is extremely necessary.
In her turn, Roberta Metsola assured that the European Parliament has always supported both Ukraine and the Ukrainian Parliament and will continue to do so. The parties also discussed the issue of supplying generators to Ukraine.
At the end of the meeting the Secretary General of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine thanked the President of the European Parliament and the Secretary General for all the support provided to Ukraine and its Parliament. In particular, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine was provided with computer equipment, network equipment, IT equipment, access to cloud services, etc.
